Kilimanjaro Film Institute started in July 2007 as an initiative of the Dutch media production company Bibeck of the Dutch media professionals Frank Bierens and Geert van Asbeck. Geert van Asbeck is still a member of the board of directors of KFI. The concept won the support of United Broadcast Facilities, the biggest facilitator of audiovisual production in the Netherlands. The pilot phase was supported by International Child Support, a Dutch based aid organisation.
The students for Kilimanjaro Film Institute are selected from a range of local organisations that take care of underprivileged youth in Arusha and its surroundings. Kilimanjaro Film Institute is supported by an increasing number of people and organisations, these include United Broadcast Facilities, Idtv, Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht, Mambapoint, Stichting DOEN, Cordaid, Tanzania Media Fund, Deloitte, Nairobits, Butterflyworks, Thompson Safaris, A&A-computers, etc.
We encourage and welcome support in our efforts to improve the lives of Tanzanian youth. If you would like to be involved, please contact Kilimanjaro Film Institute
