Volunteer Guest Trainers at KFI.

Mette and Tim will share their expertise in creative skills, life skills and technical skills with our students during their stay,  and we are honoured to have them join the KFI team.

Life – Skills Training at KFI 1st Year Students

This week our 1st year’s students got a chance to interact with Mr. Sud Abdallah, who is an occupational therapist here in Arusha. Many youth in today’s society are faced with many challenges, one being lack of self identity or self awareness which derail them from their desired dreams. Mr. Sud used the Johari window which is a simple model and useful tool for illustrating and improving self-awareness, and mutual understanding between individuals within a group.

These are periodic guest lectures that we organize parallel to the main course in cinematography. The main goal is geared towards having an all rounded students who embraces good work ethics during employment or self employment ventures.

On the other hand our 3rd year students started their one month intern-ship at different reputable companies, for example, at Kikoi in Dar -el Salam,  KFI production Unit just to mention but a few.

Our 3rd Years Students Are Ready for the World of Work

After intensive lectures and successfully working on clients’ assignments under KFI production unit, it’s now time our 3rd year’s students get introduced into new spaces of World of work. Currently preparations are under-way while the students eagerly wait for their intern-ship confirmations. The main aim of having the students working as interns at various media companies is for them to continue the learning process in a production house and apply the lessons taught in class which will improve their employability chances. The intern-ship will start in February to April 2015, with the graduation expected somewhere in June 2015. Our training is hands on, with a good balance of theoretical lectures and practical assignments.

We mentor and coach the students on the vital employability skills whilst also working on their life skills that help them adapt into new organization cultures. This week we have the pleasure of hosting Mr. Wilson Masaka from Nairobi, Kenya who is a social entrepreneur, IT expert and a trainer. He has vast experiences working with youth groups in the ICT sectors through the Nairobits model.

The ongoing lectures are based on the following;

  1. Communication skills
  2. Work ethics
  3. Planning and organization cultures and structures (How to adapt into new work environments).
  4. Moving from the comfort zone into new power zone of learning new things.
  5. Career mapping and goal setting

Our biggest philosophy is learning by doing and we take a more participatory approach allowing our students to have different view points during the group discussion that has improved our students’ self-esteem, confidence and language barriers.
