About kilifilminstitute

ABOUT KFI The Kilimanjaro Film Institute (KFI) is an organization that works to empower and educate youth from challenging backgrounds from Arusha and surrounding communities in the audio-visual production and related fields. We partner with local Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) who work with youth in selecting our students. Our vision is to have the students create and develop their own way of making films thereby giving them an opportunity to express themselves as well as starting a career in the film industry. KFI provides the highest levels of training in all aspects of audio-visual production: directing, camera, editing, sound, presenting and researching. The Institute also provides training in the vital skills of computers, English, life skills, and entrepreneurship to help our students have a good grasp of the skills they will need to succeed in life. At the present time 87% of our graduate students work in the audio-visual media in Tanzania. The impact of the Kilimanjaro Film Institute is to help young Tanzanians find employment and raise their standard of living. As such, KFI makes a positive contribute to the reduction of poverty levels among young Tanzanians from challenging background in the Arusha region and Tanzania at large. At the same time, the Tanzanian media landscape will be enhanced, as more and more Tanzanian-made programs on television, Internet and other media will be produced.
