CALL FOR APPLICATIONS! Writers and Editors Training Programme Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, March 9 -11, 2016

apply_nowCulture and Development East Africa (CDEA)’s Writers Lounge in collaboration with African Writer’s Trust (AWT) will host a writers and editors workshop for budding writers, sub-editor/ editors and book editors in Dar es Salaam. The workshop will be held from 9-11 March 2016 at Eco Sanaa Terrace, Mikocheni B. The workshop will be crowned by a Writers Conversation and Public Reading from Goretti Kyomuhendo, a Ugandan writer, and Executive Director of AWT, Professor Timothy Wangusa, a renowned Ugandan poet and novelist and upcoming poet, Zuhura Saad Seng’enge, from Tanzania on Friday March 11, 2016 starting 6.00p.m.

The workshop will combine the idea of creative writing, editorial skills training, and making a livelihood from writing. Professor Wangusa will deliver a Masterclass on Understanding the Writer and Editor Relationship. The workshop will be facilitated in English.
This is a non-residential workshop that will start at 9.00 -4.30 pm. Participants are expected to come to the workshop with the tools of their trade: Pen and notepad or laptop. WIFI is available at workshop venue.

The Workshop aims to achieve the following objectives:

* To provide creative writing skills development to the budding writers.
* To provide creative insight on editorial skills to writers.
* To provide a platform that can enable editors and writers from writing spaces in Tanzania to network.
* To introduce budding writers to the idea of self -editing.
* To enhance knowledge exchange between budding writers and more established writers in East Africa

Applications are invited from upcoming writers, book editors and print media (sub editors/ editors) from Dar es Salaam. Twenty participants will be selected; gender will be considered.

~ Your name, and gender

~ Your contact address (email and telephone )

~ A brief bio of not more than 200 words

~ A Letter of Motivation (not more than 300 words) stating:
* In what capacity you are applying (writer or editor/sub editor)
* How you believe this workshop will benefit you and your writing/editing career
* How you believe your participation would be beneficial to the print media or publishing industry of Tanzania

~ A sample (500 words) of the piece you plan to bring along to the training

All successful applicants will be expected to be fully present for the entire duration of the workshop.

OUTPUT OF PROGRAM
Submission of a piece of creative writing; poem or short story to print media or an online literary platform for publication e.g. e Kalamu magazine, Wewrite, VijanaFM and others such as Commonwealth Writers and Jalada

The deadline for receiving applications is Friday, 19th February 2016. Applications received after this date will not be considered.
