Training and work for disadvantaged youth
Kilimanjaro Film Institute (KFI) trains Tanzanian youth in different disciplines of filmmaking in order to help them gain the necessary skills to find employment. Our target group are motivated youth who might otherwise lack the financial means to develop their talents.

The most sustainable and effective way to help these disadvantaged young people is by providing them with relevant training, stable jobs and means to express themselves.

Training these students involves not only providing them with technical skills and knowledge, but also focusing on social-, life- and creative skills.

By incorporating creativity stimulation, presentation and general life skills within the training, the students learn to reflect on their own situation and culture, making them better equipped once they step out into the world.

Voice for the voiceless
The training required to make films offers youth access to 21st century means of productionby providing entry to a universe of educational, technological and economic opportunities. Film and filmmaking breaks isolation, expands horizons, creates new skills and provides a voice to the previously unheard.

Self sustainable
KFI was founded in 2007 and is still relying on external funding. But within a couple of years the institute needs to be self-supportive. KFI has therefore started to make films for clients.

This way senior students – who make these films under the guidance of foreign film makers – get training on the job, learn how to work for clients and learn what kind of films the market is asking for. At the same time KFI earns money and becomes less and less dependent on outside funding.
