No teacher-knows-it-all The conventional education in Tanzania is, as it has been for years, teacher-knows-it-all and student sits and listens. The teacher is a symbol of immense authority which consequently is seldom questioned or challenged. As a student, you basically tow the line, cram as much as you can, pass your exams and plunge into the unknown world of job seeking.
	Learning by doing  It is therefore quite an interesting observation to see the response of the students as they begin to place themselves in the workings of the Kilimanjaro Film Institute in its inclusive, active, learning by doing approach.

One of the fundamental components of this approach is to try and use different tools and methods to remove the image of a conventional learning institution from their psyche.

The idea is to establish ‘equal’ relationship between the trainers and the students with only the different roles and responsibilities as the difference

The trainer therefore takes the role of a facilitator since the observations, discussions, experiments and the eventual learning is done by the students themselves. It is also a symbiotic relationship as the facilitators/trainers also learn in this open process.
