Young people from challenging backgrounds in Tanzania have the right to learn a profession. And ordinary people in Tanzania have the right to speak out and be heard on television.
KFI teaches talented young people from disadvantaged backgrounds filmmaking and television production techniques, so that they can earn a living and raise their voices in society.
KFI also n develops and produces new TV programmes that give a voice to ordinary Tanzanians.
Vision
Our goal is to give young people from challenging backgrounds the opportunity to learn a profession in filmmaking.
Each year about 45 students, selected from civil society organisations in the Tanzanian countryside, follow a three-year course at KFI.
These students are trained in most aspects of filmmaking, and produce TV programmes that are broadcast on television as part of their on-the-job training. After graduating most of the students are employed by the film and TV sector or in related businesses.
