When the opportunity arose I was very glad to travel to Tanzania to help the students developing a format that KFI can sell to a tv station. It’s been great The students are great fun and eager to learn. They will do very well during the rest of their career.

Maaike Teernstra
Director/editor

My name is Maaike Teernstra, I’m 31 years old and I’m living in Amsterdam. Since 6 years I’m working for the dutch television. I started as a researcher and now I’m working as a director/editor/ camera-lady for several Dutch programs. My favorite programs to work for are human-interest-programs. I’m always curious to the
stories of people.

It was great to be at KFI and work with the students. It’s great to see how motivated they are to live up to their dream of becoming a professional tv-maker. It’s so much fun teaching a group of students that are so willing to learn. Besides good students they all turned out to be really good dancers; we started every lesson with some dancing and the came up with the most creative dancemoves!

I wish all the students all the best and hope to see some of your
programs!

“During the period in which we produced the first Lingo-episode in Swahili, I was overwhelmed by the enthousiasm, the motivation and the talent of the students.

I really believe they made the impossible come true: in just ten days the graduates and students of KFI created, produced, recorded and edited a very, very good and entertaining pilot episode of the first Lingo show in Swahili.

I really hope I will be able to come back more to the Kilimanjaro Film Institute and share my knowledge with the graduates and students, because I really believe the future of Tanzanian Film and Television lives and works at KFI. “

Linda Kramer
Producer

“I was really moved by what the students accomplished, by their perseverance and hope! We can learn from them if in these things. These students are going to be the first Tanzanian television makers and I feel privileged that I was able to help them to come one step closer to fulfilling their dreams!

Thanks KFI and all the students for this fantastic experience and I would really love to come back one day!”

Ton Verleg

Head of Research Lingo

A very special week in November 2009 which I never will forget. Involved coordinators who runs a special school. Motivated students who really want to learn to make a television program.

Our goal was to make an episode of Lingo. What we managed in one week was incredible. With few resources but lots of creativity, you can achieve anything. At the end of the week I was so proud to see the episode of Lingo.

I know these students are the future television makers of Tanzania and examples for their followers.

Gemma van Zeventer
Head of Research IDTV Docs

In Frebruar 2010 I had the honor to give a workshop “Documentary Film” together with my
colleague Ilja Roomans at Kilimanjaro Film Institute. It was an experience I will never forget. For them I was “Mamma Gemma”, for me they were the most motivated and devoted students I have ever met.

In the research for their short documentary films we were all touched by the often incredible sad stories and hard life of the main characters of their films, but we were all also deeply inspired by the inner strength and courage of most of them.

I hope that the students of KFI will get the opportunity, now and in their future professional life, to tell these important stories on Tanzanian television for a broad audience. And I sincerely hope that I can come back again
